Buying a horse can be a dream come true, horses are creatures great and owning one is a real privilege. Horses are naturally herd animals and as such they need company, as the owner of the horse, you are responsible for giving his horse company you need him or her. If you have plans to keep your horse in a barn for rent then it won’t be a concern, but if the horse will only be in a barn or in the field, you will need to provide the horse some kind of company as well as many physical, emotional and mental stimulation. Horses in their natural state are grazing animals, which means that they spend much of the day grazing and moving, they are not made to be locked up in a barn; in fact a horse which does not exercise enough will develop a variety of health problems and will not grow strongly. If your horse will spend time in the pasture you should check that there are no poisonous plants such as sorghum, Star thistle, queue of horse, crazy herb, Castor seed, meadow saffron, henna, Bay, fern, acorns, buttercups, cana grass, Belladonna and the most dangerous of all yew. You will also need to check that there are no holes, and anything that could damage or hurt your horse like a glass or sharp objects.

Make sure your horse grass is securely fenced and avoid using barbed wire which may cause serious injury to your horse. If you plan to keep your horse outside, then you must provide a shelter against the elements insurance. A horse that is maintained in the pasture does not require both brushing and a horse that is kept in a stable. Excessive brushing would remove the natural oils in the fur of his horse, these oils keep your horse warm and dry. His horse must have access to water fresh and clean throughout time and you should review the provision of water from his horse during the cold season to ensure that it has not frozen.
